STUDENT GUIDE

Student’s Responsibilities

In order to assure all students a positive learning experience, it is important that the following rules of respect and courtesy are maintained:

  • To arrive on time for each dance class

  • To wear the appropriate uniform and have hair done according to the studios policies for all classes

  • To speak and act in a respectful manner towards all Dance Barre staff and teachers

  • To come prepared to listen, learn and have fun

  • To remain inside The Dance Barre unless accompanied by a parent or guardian

  • The Dance Barre Inc. is a drug/alcohol/tobacco free environment.  Anyone found in possession of, or using these substances, will be sent home immediately at the parent’s expense.

Student Dress Code

  • Students are required to wear the appropriate attire for each class as outlined below.

  • Students are required to carry additional hair supplies in their dance bag. Please pack hair elastics, bobby pins, hairnets and hairspray and replenish throughout the year. The Dance Barre does not supply these items for students.

  • Students should not wear any jewelry (stud earrings are acceptable).

Ballet Classes

  • Hair must be pulled back into a slick bun

  • Pink Ballet Slippers – canvas or leather

  • Pink tights are required for class. Students are welcome to wear any brand of pink tights for class throughout the year, but are required to wear the following brand, style and colour for the end of year concert:

              Younger students – Bloch Endura (Footed) Style T0921G
              Older students – Bloch Endura (Footed) Style T0920L
                                    or Bloch Endura (Adapt-a-Toe) Style T0935L

  • Pre-Pointe and Pointe Classes must wear Convertible or Adapt-a-toe tights. Pointe students are required to wear the same leotard/bodysuit as their ballet class.

Girl’s Ballet Attire

  • Leotard colours are assigned to each class and are mandatory. These bodysuits can be purchase at the studio’s Front Desk.

  • PRE BALLET – Pink Leotard – Style #2105 Cap sleeve or Style #2100 Tank – Colour #140

  • BALLET I – Baby Blue Leotard – Style #2105 Cap sleeve or Style #2100 Tank

  • BALLET II & MINI CO. – Maroon Leotard – Style #2200 or Style #2100

  • BALLET III & JR. CO. – Navy Leotard – Style #2515 (Spagetti Strap with a pinch) or Style #2516 (Spagetti Strap)

  • BALLET IV – Purple Leotard – Style #2515 (Spagetti Strap with a pinch) or Style #2516 (Spaghetti Strap)

  • BALLET V, TEEN BALLET & TEEN CO. – Black Leotard - Style #2515 (Spagetti Strap with a pinch) or Style #2516 (Spaghetti Strap)

  • ADVANCED BALLET & SR. CO.  – any black leotard is acceptable

(**During the month of September ballet students are encouraged to wear a leotard from a previous year until permanent class placements are solidified)

Gentlemen’s Ballet Attire

  • A plain white t-shirt or tank, black shorts (above the knee) or black tights.

  • Black canvas ballet shoes

  • Black or white socks or barefeet in shoes

Jazz/Lyrical/Turns/Tap Classes

  • Any fitted dancewear is acceptable. Dance pants, Capri pants, shorts, tights, tank tops, half-tops and leotards

  • Properly fitted jazz shoes are required for all jazz classes. IMPORTANT NOTE: Girls are required to wear tan coloured jazz shoes for the end of year concert. Any brand of tan shoe is acceptable. Boys are required to wear black coloured jazz shoes for the end of year concert.

  • Dance paws are required for all lyrical classes

  • Jazz shoes, dance paws or barefeet are acceptable for turns classes

  • Black tap shoes for tap classes. Any brand is acceptable.

  • Hair should be pulled back in a pony tail

Hip Hop Classes

  • Sweatshirts and baggy t-shirts are acceptable within reason. Sweatpants, track pants or shorts are suggested

  • Please do not wear any clothing with questionable printing. Clothing should be age-appropriate and is at the teacher’s discretion

  • Jeans or jean shorts are not permitted

  • Clean running shoes should be worn. In the event of inclement weather please pack an additional pair of shoes in your dance bag for class.

Petite Elite Academy Classes (ages 2-6)

  • To promote equality for our little ones and to remove distraction and envy from our classes, we have a strict dress code for our youngest students. It is mandatory for our PEA students to wear the following:

  • Pink Bodysuit Style #2105 (cap sleeve) or stle #2100 (tank sleeve)

  • Any brand of pink tights or bare legs with white socks

  • A pink skirt is optional

  • U & Me classes – ballet shoes only

  • 3 Yr Combo – tap shoes and ballet shoes

  • 4/5 and 5/6 combination classes – tap shoes and ballet or jazz shoes

  • Hair must be pulled back in a ponytail or bun

  • Boys should wear white or black t-shirt and black shorts with black ballet shoes and tap shoes if required for the class

  • Our Petite Elite classes will hold special parties throughout the year. During these parties parents will be able to come into the studio to view the dancers and take pictures. The studio will post notices prior to each party.

Additional information for our U & Me Class (2yrs only)

  • Parents/guardians of our 2 year old dancers must attend all classes.

  • Parents/guardians should wear comfortable workout clothing, ballet slippers or clean running shoes. In the event of inclement weather, please bring additional shoes to change into.

  • Please do not bring cell phones, drinks or food into the class. Siblings are also not allowed in the dance studios.

  • Cameras and video cameras are not permitted in regular classes. We offer special parties throughout the year where you may take photos and video.
